Just when you think things are quiet for once and you can carry on with your project: BAM! Another hit. Today I received a letter from the Alkmaar municipality about the objection from the water board, or so I thought. I scanned it without reading it properly and forwarded it to our secretary Marloes. A few minutes later she called: ‘I just wanted to hear if you are doing ok!’ ‘Why?’ I asked. ‘Because the Gasfabriek has also raised an objection!’ ‘What? No, you’re kidding right?’ But no, our ‘neighbor’ foundation Behoud de GAS!fabriek has also raised an objection against the environmental permit for our pilot project Tiny House Alkmaar…

""

To be honest, I’m furious. And I don’t understand it at all. To think that they were the first to apply for a permit for this project, when I would run it with one of their volunteers at the time, Nicolette. That cooperation didn’t go as I had hoped and expected as you can read here, so I filed for a new permit with the approval of the municipality and started a cooperation with my future neighbors. And now the same organisation that first wanted to execute a Tiny House project, is objecting to our permit? Why? That’s the million-dollar question, of course.

In the objection they state that they disagree with the judgment of the municipality that it’s not violating the legal criterion of good spatial planning. ‘The foundation is hindered in her business operation, considering the distance between her property and the houses.’

This objection doesn’t mean we can’t carry on with the project, we can go through at our own risk. Oh well, we were already doing that, pending the objection from the water board. Bring it on. Man, oh man. I’m not drawing any conclusions, that’s pointless. So much opportunity for cooperation going to waste. I can’t get my head around it, so I’m just leaving it at that.
