It\u2019s been a while since I\u2019ve written about life in my Tiny House, or what\u2019s going on with my animals. At some point you\u2019ve covered just about everything, life goes on and things become \u2018normal\u2019. For me, that is; for you it\u2019s not and I tend to forget that. You might like to read about the things I wouldn\u2019t consider interesting. So today another blog about the things in and around the house.<\/em><\/p>\n\"\"<\/a>\n

Right now I\u2019m most concerned with how much longer I\u2019ll have water. It hasn\u2019t rained for weeks. We desperately need some rain here in Alkmaar, like everywhere else in the country. I\u2019ve been frugal with my water for weeks now and I can\u2019t shower at home anymore. It\u2019s almost a miracle I still have some water left in the tank, but I\u2019m hesitating to see how much is left\u2026it won\u2019t be a lot at this point. I only use my water to drink, do the dishes and to clean my house every now and then. The grass is dry on the field here. It crackles when you walk on it. Every day I walk up to the waterside to fill my two watering cans so I can water my plants. They are doing just fine though; I\u2019ve already harvested my first vegetables. A few onions, fennel, some palm tree kale and the first zucchinis and cucumbers. The flowers I sowed are also growing beautifully. I love the combination of flowers and vegetables. Why would you only have all the same vegetables in a row? Mixing it up is much more fun to look at and it is supposed to help against plagues too.<\/p>\n

Bella and Blondie have grown so much and they turned out not to be bantams but large Wyandottes. One morning I heard a funny sound and it turned out to be Blondie, trying to crow\u2026I couldn\u2019t believe my ears! So she is a he, a rooster. I\u2019ll have to accept that. Unfortunately I now own two couples: the white Johnny and June, and Bella and\u2026Goldie the rooster. They can\u2019t all go in the same coop together. June is being a little bitch to Bella and Goldie as it is. I have a temporary second coop, and although it\u2019s a bit small, Bella and Goldie stay there at night. Sacha from Tiny House Limburg promised to make me a gorgeous chicken coop for me which I\u2019ll finish with a run, but I suspect it\u2019ll take a while before it\u2019s here. So for now this works fine. Hella and Elvis are doing fine, in case you were wondering :)<\/p>\n

Inside the house the temperature is manageable on hot days. Closing the curtains and\/or opening the windows on strategic places, and it\u2019s stays somewhat cool inside. Opening up all windows at night helps cool down even more. It\u2019s just those flies\u2026there are so many of them and I haven\u2019t got any bug screens. Oh well, if that\u2019s the worst part!<\/p>\n

Today it seems like it might rain. I hope so and I\u2019m doing a little rain dance. There are only so many times you can ask the fire department to help you out, right ;) We\u2019ll have to figure it out on our own. I\u2019ve asked for an estimate for a back-up water pipe. One connection for all 5 Tiny Houses that will be here by the end of the year, so we can fill our tanks if the droughts last very long like it does now. I\u2019m not sure yet if it\u2019s possible, if we\u2019ll get permission from the municipality and if we can afford it. I suspect we\u2019ll be able to afford it though, splitting the bill over 5 Tiny Houses and for 5 years. We\u2019ll still try to live from rain water as much as we can, but I suspect we\u2019ll get more and more droughts like this one.<\/p>\n\"\"<\/a>\n

In the meantime, Marloes and Marja have been living here for some time now. Marloes since April and Marja since May. We don\u2019t spend every minute of our day together, but we know where to find each other and every other week we share a meal together and have our meeting afterwards. Marloes and I are free during the day on a regular basis, she\u2019s working flexible hours and I can manage my own time. So we both bought a card for the cinema that\u2019s around the corner. It\u2019s nice and quiet there in the day time and we both like going to the movies. By the end of this week Lan\u2019s house will arrive in Alkmaar, we can\u2019t wait! We\u2019ve been a close group for quite some time now and it will feel complete when Lan finally lives here. Well, almost complete, by the end of the year another\u00a0Tiny House will arrive. Whoever will be the residents of that house you\u2019ll hear soon enough, promised. A real Tiny Village, so great!<\/p>\n
