The redeeming word has come! I received a message from the municipality of Alkmaar last Wednesday announcing that I may live in my Tiny House for the period of one month on the site at the Gasfabriek in Alkmaar!! Oh guys, I’m so happy! \u00a0This is such a relief and a huge step forward for the Tiny House movement in the Netherlands! Now you might think: \u2018a month, that’s not very long, is it?\u2019 But this is pending the municipalities\u2019 decision regarding the pilot project for Tiny Houses at the Gasfabriek which we have recently submitted. It will be discussed next week, and I think the chance that \u00a0our project will be approved is rather high. I am so very happy with and proud of the municipality of Alkmaar, which is showing that they have guts and are living up to their slogan: \u00a0Alkmaar does it! Many \u00a0thanks to Aldermen Dijkman, Nagengast and Van de Ven!<\/p>\n

I am also very happy with the people of Stichting behoud de GAS! Factory, without whose commitment, enthusiasm and positivity none of this would happen. Thank you very much, dear Nicolette and Claire. You are team players! Not only because of this plan for Tiny Houses, but also because Claire and Nicolette have been working on fantastic social projects for years. Tomorrow, on Sunday the 22nd<\/sup>\u00a0 of \u00a0May, my Tiny House will finally come to North Holland and I can move in during the week. The place at the Gasfabriek has no amenities, but I don’t need any because \u00a0my Tiny House is made to be completely off-grid. I don\u2019t need to be connected to the grid because I have a solar system<\/a> which provides my electricity. As far as water is concerned, I am still in the orientation phase. I can collect and store rainwater,<\/span> but have no water filter. I am still figuring out which filter system I should buy but will buy one soon. Later on, I will let you know more about the water management once I have figured out which system to choose. \u00a0For now, I want to keep it short since I still have a lot to do before my Tiny House arrives at its new home. \u00a0It is a lovely spot, next to the brook, and within walking distance of the station, and with really cool neighbors like the Gasfabriek and the \u00a0Urban Earthship. It’s going to be so much fun there! If you want to come and see my house arrive on Sunday, you are welcome. We are expected to arrive around 2:00 p.m. When the pilot project goes ahead, there will certainly be an opportunity to have a look inside as well, but first I have to install myself. And let\u2019s not forget, Jack and Hella have to get used to their new home and surroundings in peace. With the help of Jan Aart, I will get a temporary kennel at<\/span> for my Tiny House so that the doors of the house can be open without the cats leaving. They will have to stay inside for a few weeks to get used to their new surroundings before I can let them run free. This way we can be outside on the porch anyway. It probably won’t look very nice, but its only temporary. Next week I’m sure I’ll have some nice pictures of my Tiny House in its new location, even without the ‘aviary’, haha!
