It has been quite a week. A week of goodbyes and letting go. On Monday I had to put down my beloved cat Tommetje, after one last weekend of giving him all the love that I have in me. It was horribly sad and hard, but it is better like this. I know in my heart that it was the right thing to do and I think Tom was at peace with it too. He spent the entire weekend on my lap and it was as if he were comforting me, saying: it’s all right, you can let me go. I took a lot of pictures of him and I’ll frame one of them and hang it on the wall. It will definitely get a place in my Tiny House as well. On Monday night together with a dear friend, I said goodbye to Tommetje at his last resting place in the garden, And now it’s just the three of us: Jack, Hella and me. How weird is that…
To find some distraction I started reading Marie Kondo’s book “Tidying up” and finished it in only 2 days. It’s only about 120 pages long, so it’s not that big of an achievement. But how I wanted to tidy up after that! It was time. Out with all the old! So I tried to follow her directions as well as I could and went through everything in my house per category. The result: 2 carloads full for charity! And that too was a process of letting go that came with quite some grief. Like decluttering mentally and emotionally as well. But it was good, and yesterday the sun came out again and I started to feel a bit like my old self again. I’ve still got quite a bit of downsizing to do, but I have made a lot of progress and it really clears up space, not only in your house but in your head as well! I can really recommend it, as well as the book by the way!
Yesterday I drove by the site of the old gas factory in Alkmaar again and a group of enthusiastic and interesting people were busy building an Urban Earthship there. They have a Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/UrbanEarthship Definitely worth a look and while you are at it, give it a like too :) It could well be that I can put my Tiny House here!! And that would be great, I’m sure! For the site is buzzing with creative and eco-friendly initiatives; things are happening there. And I would love to become a part of that! We shall see. For now I have a meeting scheduled for next Saturday to talk about what I could contribute to this organization. I love what they are doing and would like to help.
I aim to get the financing for my Tiny House finalized by the end of the month, and when that happens I can finally have a talk again with Daniel of Hermit Houses and we could start on the design! I so look forward to that! I have a lot of new ideas and the design I posted here earlier will definitely change yet again. But I’ll keep you posted! Have a good weekend!
