It was supposed to start on July 1st, but everything is ready and I can’t wait… so my crowdfunding campaign is officially launched!! And that took quite some effort:
- figuring out how this works;
- talking to experts;
- attending a workshop about crowdfunding;
- writing a campaign text;
- shooting a tiny video with Koen;
- coming up with an animation and persuading a friend to make it in his spare time;
- finding a crowdfunding platform and submitting a campaign;
- setting up a Thunderclap and ‘stalking’ everyone to support me;
- emailing 120 people..
Something like that and a million more things.
I’m sure there are people who think: why crowdfunding? Isn’t this about your house and not a ‘charity’? And I get that, because I’ve been thinking about that myself. But after talking to some people around me, I’ve decided to do it.
Because it’s not just about the house, but about what I’m trying to accomplish: about how people need to think about greener ways of living; about the possibilities for different ways of living, even when that does not necessarily involve a Tiny House; about how I am trying, by writing about my experiences in this blog, to inspire people to more awareness of their possessions. To think first before going shopping whether they actually need that new pair of jeans. Or deciding to eat more biologically, to switch to solar power, to take shorter showers. And all those little bits help!
Besides, I’ve discovered that there are a lot of people who have similar dreams and would love to live in a Tiny House. Some don’t have the means yet to go for it or are holding out for other reasons and find on my blog and those of other Tiny House pioneers the inspiration and information to go for it themselves later.
With this campaign I am only looking to finance the last bit, the interior and rainwater installation. I am financing the build of the house in full myself. In short, yes, it’s about my house, but I am opening up my life wishing to inspire people to take better care of the earth. I can’t explain it any better; either you think it’s a good idea or you don’t, and that’s fine too. The do-good crowdfunding platform 1%Club thankfully thought it a good idea, so you can visit my campaign here:
