It’s been three years since I started blogging. Since February 2015 I’ve written a weekly blog, on average. At this point I’ve got more than 3300 subscribers to my newsletter and about 14,000 people find their way to my website every month. That’s fantastic! Today I’ve created a Patreon page. Patreon is a platform which enables people to support artists online. I can also use a little help from my friends. I hope you’ll check out my Patreon page!
I remember my first blog very well; I wrote it on February 20th 2015. I ended it by writing: ‘I actually don’t think many people will read this blog and that’s ok, because I do it more for myself. But who knows, maybe there are people who have similar ideas and my writings may offer help, tips, peace of mind or whatever.’ I could never have imagined so many people would like my writings and find them helpful. And I like it so much, writing! It usually doesn’t take much effort, but of course I need to sit down and take some time to do it.
Because my blogs turned out to be so popular, I hoped to make a little money out of it, eventually. That’s not that easy though. You need to invest a lot of time and money, approaching companies for ads and hiring professional photographers. And even though I really like blogging, I just haven’t got the time to take my blog to the next level. There are so many other things to do to help grow the Tiny house movement and help people in realizing their own Tiny House dream. And that’s also very important, valuable, and fun work to do. A lot of that work is voluntary, as you may know, like my work for the Tiny House Nederland foundation. Since November 2016 I’ve been trying to make it as a freelancer. Giving lectures and workshops takes me a long way, but I’m not there just yet. That’s why I’ve decided to create a Patreon page.
Patreon is a platform which allows people who create valuable online content – whether it’s blogs, videos, art or music – to create a page. A patron is an old term for someone who (financially) supports artists. Anyone who appreciates the work of an online ‘creator’ can support him or her with a monthly contribution. As from now, you can support my work for a little amount per month and from 5 dollars (it’s an American platform) a month, for which you get something in return. Do you enjoy reading my blogs and would you like me to continue writing? Perhaps you may want me to expand the website with videos or you can’t wait for my book to finally come out? In that case I hope you’ll want to become my Patron!

If you can’t or won’t, don’t worry. My blogs will continue to be freely available for all. If you do, thanks so much for your support! I wish you all a very nice Sunday!
