The decision has been made, although it wasn’t an easy one: Daniel will not be building my Tiny House. Unfortunately, we couldn’t reach an agreement financially. There were several options, all of which I have considered. It’s a pity, because Daniel builds beautiful Tiny Houses, but there you have it. My budget is limited, but I think it is sufficient for the build of a Tiny House that suits me. So back to square 1? Not at all! :) By now I’ve gathered so much information and have met so many people and two of them are Lena and Laurens van der Wal: brother and sister, students at TU Delft and great Tiny House lovers! Laurens has almost graduated and Lena is still in the middle of her studies. Both of them want to focus completely on designing and building Tiny Houses. And they want to design my Tiny House and guide me in the whole process of the build! I am so happy with this, they are both very enthusiastic, smart and just cool people who think sustainability is really important and have loads of ideas on how to do things better. So we are going to do this together and I’m really excited!

This does mean it will take longer, but I have already taken that into account. I’m aiming for the spring now, March or April. It also means that things are a bit uncertain and abstract at the moment. No tight timelines since much is still unknown. But I have found a nice group of people and there is lots of support! I met Niels at the Urban Earthship, where he voluntarily dedicates his time and knowledge as a carpenter. I have asked Niels whether he wants to help me with my project and am very grateful that he has agreed to that. Koen is also still involved; originally in capturing it all for his documentary ‘A small change’ but also because he is fascinated with the Tiny House movement in the Netherlands and is by now considering a move into a Tiny House himself. (Just go for it, Koen!!). Peter is a big help in figuring out the solar panel installation, Zdeno helps me connect to all kinds of interesting people, and so the Tiny House community is beginning to take shape in the Netherlands!
We all think it is important to share information, open source. And in order to gather all that information and make it available in one central spot, Lena, Laurens, Koen, Niels and I agreed this morning to use the blog www.tinyhuis.nl. So that’s definitely a site to keep an eye on and useful information for anyone looking to live in, build or read more about Tiny Houses will soon be added there.

We have made an appointment for August 14th to get cracking on the design for my Tiny House – from scratch. Although I do have plenty of information and examples by now for Lena and Laurens to work with. So, back to the drawing board!
