First of all: thank you dear people for the overwhelming number of heartwarming messages I received in response to my previous blog! That has done me so much good, and all the positive energy sent to me last Monday has helped. I just want to let you know that I’m fine, because I also received some worried messages. No wonder. It was quite a sad story. So, a little perspective is now needed.
I’m not depressed or anything. My path has a lot of potholes and bumps and lately it seems like a storm has raged, leaving some thick fallen trees on the road here and there as well. But if I can’t get around them, I’ll climb over them! I may be Marjolein in miniature, but they will not tiny me down ;)

So yes, I often feel sad and angry about all these obstacles. I am an emotional being. But well, who isn’t? Luckily, there is also a lot of good in my life and I still have a lot of fun. Sometimes though, those fallen trees cast so much shade that they block the sun. Then they just seem insurmountable. But that feeling always passes. So dear people, don’t worry too much, I’ll be fine again! And you will too, should you be going through a hard time. A dear friend of mine advised me to put together a kind of “toolbox” containing things that make me happy: a list of things you can do when you are in a dark mood. Sometimes, one will work well and the next time, another. So, make sure you have a list ready to choose from. Whether it’s calling a friend and clearing your heart, pampering yourself with a good piece of chocolate, watching a “cry your eyeballs out” feel-good movie, taking a walk in the forest, you name it.
Things that make me happy are:
- Playing Dungeons & Dragons with friends
- Going to the movies with my dear neighbor Marloes
- Good food
- Listening to music (which is also very mood-determining)
- My PBH club nights (Pizza, Beer and Horror;))
- Going on a Tiny House road trip with Monique visiting Tiny House projects
- Gardening, sowing, harvesting plants
- Hugging my cat Hella
- Being in nature, although I don’t do that waaaaaay often enough
- And much more

Having the sun shining right now really helps! Who gets cheered up by the gray weather we have had lately? Certainly not me. How about you? I hope I have reassured some people today. And that you have a great day with time to take a walk or sit in the sun. Because we also need that vitamin D to feel good. Enjoy it!
This song also makes me happy. It makes me feel hopeful. By the way, that well known adage – “accepting things that you cannot change” – is still a learning point for me ;)
