Every year I have my chimney cleaned and my fire extinguisher tested. I also disinfect my water tank and water pipe once a year. But my gas installation? I had never checked it since I came to live in my house, now more than three years ago. So, it was about time! In fact, you have to have it done every year by a qualified company. Because safety is paramount and when you live in a wooden Tiny House, it is even more important.
I have a gas stove with a gas oven and a tankless water heater. They run on propane and about three times a year I have my two tanks filled at gas company Zoon in Heiloo. Everything works like a charm. But, in my old house the gas company came to inspect my installation every year and yet, in my Tiny House, nobody had inspected it. It is better not to take risks with gas. Therefore, I wanted a new gas company to check my installation every year, but my Tiny House installation is a bit different from the installation that you find in a normal house. That is why I started looking for a specialist. Through the supplier of my water heater, I ended up with a company specializing in the maintenance and repair of installations in chalets and holiday homes. Ton visited me today to check everything.
Ton told me that sometimes he experiences the craziest things in his work. Very unsafe situations with gas leaks that are not noticed. Gas tanks that are outside all day in the sun, cables that are completely dried out and are about to burst. Luckily, I have it well organized according to Ton; and everything nice and clean. He said that it is not always his experience. Nice to receive such a compliment about your house! Ton recommends having your gas installation serviced once a year. He has checked all the parts well and checked with compressed air to ensure that there was no leakage.
Do you also live in a Tiny House and do you use gas in your house? Will you think about having your installation checked every now and then? It is better to be safe than sorry in this case. It is about your own safety and that of your fellow residents, pets and possibly also your neighbors. It is one of those things that you can easily forget; that happened to me too. From now on I have a reminder in my diary that will warn me every year that it is time to make an appointment again. I can rest assured again!
