Do Tiny Houses and food forests make you happy? Would you prefer to live in or on the edge of a food forest in your own Tiny House? Does living in Overijssel appeal to you and do you want to actively participate in shaping a new housing project to realize such a combination? Then I have good news for you: this is your chance! Oh, can you imagine it? You step out the door of your Tiny House to pick walnuts, apples, berries and many more goodies straight out of your backyard… Sounds fantastic to me!
I hear it more and more often: the combination of food forest and Tiny Houses. It is also a very logical and sensible combination, if you ask me. Food forests are a balanced way of producing food without harming ecosystems. Tiny Houses are a form of living with a small footprint and a philosophy that fits very well with that of permaculture. If you can create Tiny House residential locations where the houses serve as financial support for the planting of new food forests, with residents that like to actively contribute to the construction and maintenance of the forest from which they can later harvest for their own use, then you have achieved a triple profit in my opinion. Profit for nature, profit for landowners who are looking for new functions for their land and profit for people who want to live small, simply and sustainably.
Last June I met Anneke and Jeroen at the first meeting of the New Nature and Tiny Houses Test-lab. They have twenty-eight hectares of forest land in the Overijssel region, from which they want to make two plots of four and six hectares available for a combination of food forest and Tiny Houses. Currently, the site is still a production forest of poplars for the timber industry that will be harvested. To realize this project, they receive support from the Test-lab with which the province is also involved. The province of Overijssel is positive about the combination of new forest and Tiny Houses, but the municipality in question still has to give permission for the project. Anneke and Jeroen are now looking for aspiring Tiny House residents who want to actively participate in the realization of this new food forest and housing project.
This is a great opportunity for active people who want more than just housing! It is living in the countryside, close to the Colenbranderbos (main ecological structure). The location is thirty-five kilometers east of Zwolle and ten kilometers west of Hardenberg. The photos and video in this blog have been made to give a good impression of the terrain and surroundings. It is a place with a lot of privacy, but it is also about living in a community (no commune). You contribute to new nature and fair food production, housing and living in balance with nature. This location is about off-grid living, so it will not be connected to utilities, but organized ecologically. Anneke and Jeroen are looking for people with an affinity for and preferably some experience with permaculture and food forests:
“In the first place, we would like to see people who come from the world of alternative horticulture and / or agriculture and / or fruit growing, with an interest in, for example, permaculture, where plants support and protect each other’s growth. It would be nice if they wanted to live and work in a kind of lively food forest, with tree crowns and shrubs and edible plants, where harvesting is possible, primarily for their own consumption. ”
They have asked me to make an appeal for active residents and participants. Are you excited about this opportunity and do you want to qualify for a place in this project? Then fill in the questionnaire via the link below before Friday November 15th.
Unfortunately, registration for this project is now closed!
Please note: complete the questionnaire as completely as possible. You will receive a message when you complete the form, but not immediately. After November 15 I will make an inventory of all entries and pass them on to Anneke and Jeroen. I will also send you a confirmation of receipt. It is then up to Jeroen and Anneke to select who they will contact, depending on the number of registrations. So please wait until you receive my confirmation of receipt, then you know for sure that your registration has arrived! If you have not heard anything by the end of November you can send me a message, but not before. My mailbox is already so full you see, thank you for your understanding! :)
